May is Mental Health Awareness Month

May 1, 2024

May is Mental Health Awareness Month. Since 1949, Mental Health Awareness Month has brought many together for the common purpose of education, sharing of resources, advocating, and promoting awareness for the challenges faced by those individuals and families affected by mental illness. The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) Northwest Iowa works together with their partners and communities to improve the quality of life for persons with mental illness and their families through support, education and research. In addition to a host of information on Mental Health Awareness Month, here are three tips from their latest newsletter to put into action: 1) Learn how modern life affects mental health with new tools to navigate our changing world; 2) Act by building your coping toolbox so you can manage stress, difficult emotions, and challenging situations; 3) Advocate to improve mental health for yourself, your friends and family, and your community.
