Iowa Department of Health and Human Services Adult Protective Services investigates allegations of dependent adult abuse.

Eligibility Criteria
A dependent adult means a person eighteen years of age or older whose ability to perform the normal activities of daily living or to provide for the person’s own care or protection is impaired, either temporarily or permanently.
Instructions for Referral

Call 1-800-362-2178 to report abuse, neglect, exploitation, or self-neglect of a dependent adult. An intake will be created with as much information as available about the person and situation. If a person is in imminent danger, call 911. Do NOT email a report of abuse, neglect or exploitation as this could result in a delayed response to the report.

Important Notice: Care Connections of Northern Iowa Will Close Operations on June 30, 2025

As part of Iowa’s statewide reorganization of behavioral health and disability services, Care Connections of Northern Iowa (CCNIA) will cease all operations effective June 30, 2025. Clients will be transitioned to new service coordination under the awarded Administrative Services Organization and Disability Access Points.

Providers are requested to submit all final invoices for services rendered prior to July 1, 2025, no later than August 10, 2025.
